Notes

We are committed to Rent Responsibly standards. This means we follow best-in-class guidelines to ensure you have a peaceful, safe and memorable stay with us. We care a lot about maintaining good relationships with our community, so we appreciate you following these "house rules" during your stay.

LODGING AGREEMENT: The guest booking the property must digitally sign a lodging agreement immediately following the reservation. The most important terms of the agreement are included below, and the guest may cancel a booking penalty free within 24 hours. If the lodging agreement is not completed with 24 hours then the reservation will be cancelled. The agreement will be sent via text message, so please be sure your phone number is correct before booking.

AGE 25 OR OLDER TO BOOK: The guest booking the property must be 25 years of age or older. We reserve the right to request a photo or scan of a government-issued photo ID. The guest who books must stay at the property--you may not book for others if you do not intend to stay at the property.

QUIET HOURS START AT 10 PM: Our property's quiet hours of 10 pm to 6 am are required by county ordinance and enforced by local police. If the police respond to a noise complaint, every individual on the property may face a misdemeanor criminal charge and be subject to a fine by the county of $300. Failure to abide by the county noise ordinance will result in the immediate termination of the stay without refund.

Past noise complaints have always come from groups of 20-somethings. If you are booking for a group of people in their twenties and you think your group may want to play loud music at any time then do not book this property or cancel your reservation if you have already booked. Find another place for your trip so you do not have your trip terminated early and without refund.

NOISE MONITORING AND SECURITY CAMERA: We use devices that measure volume levels throughout the property (like a smoke detector but for noise) and allow us to respond to noise nuisances before the police are called. The devices are triggered primarily by sustained periods of loud music, not things like loud talking or laughter (which is encouraged!). The devices do not record audio and are 100% privacy compliant. We also have a security camera that records the front door and driveway. This allows us to facilitate remote check in and monitor the property between guests.

DAMAGE WAIVER: Every stay is backed by a Safely damage waiver. Guests will not be held responsible for damage caused during their stay if 1) the damage is accidental, and 2) the damage is reported as soon as possible, and by no later than the check out time.

POSSIBLE BACKGROUND CHECK: We reserve the right to use a third-party to verify the guest's identity and check criminal databases to finalize the reservation. Complete terms regarding the guest verification are provided in the lodging agreement, and can be provided sooner upon request.

NUMBER OF GUESTS: It is important to have the correct number of guests in the reservation, so please update accordingly if the number changes after you first book. The house comfortably sleeps 8-9 adults, and the number of guests is strictly limited to 11. While the maximum number of guests is 11, that assumes that at least some of those guests are children. The place is really just too small for 11 adults. Sleeping 11 people will require 2 people in each king/queen bed, 2 people in the full bed, and 1 in each full/twin bed. There are only enough plates, glasses, etc. for a maximum of 11 people, and the septic plumbing cannot handle more than 11 people at once. Only registered guests are allowed to use the home, day or night.

NO PETS: No exceptions, sorry. Please don't ask whether we can allow your perfectly house-trained, hypoallergenic labradoodle to join because we can't :-)

WIFI/INTERNET: Unfortunately, because the house is so rural we can't offer fast internet. On the bright side, cellular reception (at least for Verizon) is really quite good at the house as there is a cell tower very close by. I typically get download speeds of 45 Mbps on my Verizon cell phone and use that as a hot spot to stream high definition movies over the TV in the basement with no lag problems at all. If you have a decent cell phone data plan you shouldn't have any trouble streaming on that.

SNOW-INS: During the winter, four wheel drive, snow tires/chains, and a car with good clearance are HIGHLY recommended in the event of a snow storm or heavy rain, as there is a good chance that a significant snow storm could restrict access in and out of the house. You need to use good judgement as to whether to cancel a trip before it begins or leave the house early.

STEEP/GRAVEL ROAD: The last half mile is accessed by way of a single lane gravel road. Please drive slowly so as not to damage your car and out of respect for the neighbors. Deer will often be seen in the road when it's dark. The gravel road is relatively flat until the end. The last 100 yards of the road will have you making a hairpin turn to drive up a steep paved road to the top of a hill. When it snows, going up or down this hill will be very difficult to do without four wheel drive, snow tires, and/or chains. Please be prepared! We have had guests in the past who were not able to make it up the hill in a snowstorm.

BUGS: This is a river house in the woods--that means there are lots of bugs, especially in the summertime. Even if you are careful some of those bugs will find their way into the house. The best way to minimize the number of bugs inside is to keep doors and windows closed at all times. Please also carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food.

WOOD STOVE: You are encouraged to use the wood stove as long as you do so carefully! Always keep the stove door securely shut unless you are actively putting logs inside the stove. The stove can get very hot, so be sure to keep small children away whenever a fire is burning. We do not guarantee there will be wood or fire starter there, so please plan to bring your own.

SMOKING: Smoking is never allowed inside the house. You may smoke outside as long as you clean up after yourself. You may not litter cigarette butts on the deck, in the yard, or anywhere else--butts must go in the trash after they have cooled off.

SHEETS: At the end of your stay you will be asked to strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds.

GARAGE: The garage is not available to guests and will be locked during your stay.

NO LANDSCAPING: This is a house in the woods and we intentionally keep it "wild". Twice a guest has complained that the "yard" is overgrown with "weeds," but that is the wrong way to think about the place--it does not have a manicured yard with a suburban-style lawn. It does, however, have lots of privacy, unbeatable views of the mountains and the Shenandoah River, and acres upon acres of wild woodlands steps from the front door. Leave the city/suburbs behind and get some real fresh air!

WAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR USE OF THE HOT TUB: By using the hot tub you agree to follow all house rules associated with it and you release the owner of the property and the manager from all liability relating to injuries that may occur while using the hot tub, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence.

WAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR USE OF THE BUNK BEDS: This property has bunk beds, which pose a risk of injury. Guests agree to hold owner and manager harmless for any injuries which may occur.

SEPTIC SYSTEM: This house has a septic system. Grease and oil must never be allowed down any of the sink drains. Feminine hygiene products must be thrown away in a trash can and not flushed down a toilet. Never flush solid trash down the toilet or into a sink drain.

RIVER ACCESS: The river is a difficult 15 minute walk from the house: through dense woods with bugs and critters, down (and then back up) a steep hill. It's not for the faint of heart!

NO FIREWORKS: Fireworks are not allowed.

NO FIREARMS: Guests may not bring firearms or ammunition inside the house.

NO ILLEGAL DRUGS: Guests may not possess or consume any illegal drugs on the property, including cannabis.

Emma (review from Airbnb)
Great location for a quiet weekend in the mountains—the river view is to die for and we found the beds incredibly comfortable, especially for an Airbnb. Mountain Mama has a lot of rules and policies, but if you think your group can handle them you’re rewarded with a lovely stay.

Elizabeth (review from Airbnb)
Overall the house was nice & decently clean. My groups main issue was on the second night of our trip we woke up to a man walking around the property with a flashlight at 3 am. When we called the police they let us know it’s probably the neighbor because he likes to inspect sometimes, which made us think this was a common occurrence. This really freaked us out being a group of girls & having a large man on the property in the middle of the night.

Response:
We have been renting this house to guests since 2019 and have never heard of this happening. We have also hosted four other groups since you checked out two weeks ago, and none of them have reported anything like this, either. I'm also confused as to why you never mentioned this to us during the reservation, or as we were communicating on the day of check out--it seems like a significant detail to go unmentioned until a public review. If this really happened then it's unacceptable and we will get to the bottom of it so it does not happen again.

Natalie (review from Airbnb)
This house is very private and on a beautiful piece of property. We could hear the rapids far below and enjoyed the expansive view in the winter. There are many great wineries, breweries and restaurants nearby. We went for a relaxing getaway and there was enough space for everyone to spread out and have some privacy. Enjoying the view and beautiful surroundings from the hot tub every evening was a great way to end the day. There are numerous places inside to hang out and play games. We would definitely book again.

Poorva (review from Airbnb)
Loved our stay at Mountain Mama’s! The guide book was super helpful, and they were very prompt when we reached out to their helpline. The hot tub and the view made us want to never leave! Would definitely go back again - thanks Mountain Mama :)

Genesis (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful house , we loved the fact that it fit very comfortably our family of 10. They have baby chair and few items that come handy. The place was very clean and we like the view of the river behind and of course the jacuzzi. I would give this place a 10/10 and definitely come back. Things to do near could be visiting Harpers ferry , the brewery, enjoying nature and the river. Thanks

Randolph (review from Airbnb)
This was a great family get-a-way location in the mountains. Beautiful views of the Shenandoah River and rapids, with the peaceful sound of the water running over them. The home was just what we expected and more! Very kid friendly with lots to do! Our host Eddie was very responsive when needed. A wonderful Thanksgiving place for the Family.

Kate (review from Airbnb)
We had a wonderful time at this place! It’s private without feeling too far from places to go, comfortably stocked with necessities and attentive hosts! The property and the house are exceptionally beautiful. We were a group of six adults (was going to be eight, which probably would have felt like the right number of adults for this space) and we are already discussing going back in the spring. The manual is *really* helpful, too!

Isabel (review from Airbnb)
The house has great views and is really well equipped. It has all you need. The kitchen is fine but not superb. Beds are comfortable. Hosts give you all the information you need from the house.

Amber (review from Airbnb)
Great place, great communication, and great view!

Aj (review from Airbnb)
The location is an excellent spot for a forest getaway. You'll hear the pleasant lull of river whenever you're outside and the hot tub makes for a great outdoor experience. Not too far from Charles Town or Harpers Ferry, it a great landing spot to explore the local sites.

Luke (review from Airbnb)
All in all a great location and Eddie will do everything he can to make your stay a good one!

Cora (review from Airbnb)
the place was amazing! a peaceful retreat and beautiful view. we would definitely come back!

John (review from Airbnb)
This home has an amazing view. Very nice place looking out over the river. Nice outdoor furniture and deck. Nice home and comfortable too.

George (review from Airbnb)
The property was gorgeous and just what we were looking for! It does take little bit to make it down the private roads to the property itself, but well worth it for the privacy and views the place offers.

Chris (review from Airbnb)
Gorgeous location, ideal seclusion, great time.

Had a really nice stay with our family. The views of the river are spectacular and relaxing.

Great space, beautiful view!

Audrey (review from Airbnb)
This location is GORGEOUS!! We felt super lucky to stay here and enjoy the beauty, it is perfect nature and the first and second floor of the house are totally five star wonderful, loved them!!! We completely enjoyed our time here and appreciated the very detailed manual of places to go, the jetted tub, hot tub, amazing deck over the rapids, and little fire pit area. Two minor things to be aware of: 1. the basement bedroom and bathroom are totally unadorned-- other than the bed itself, there is absolutely no furniture, rugs, lamps, night table or anything. In the tiny basement bathroom there is not even a mirror or little shelf to put a toothbrush on. It would be best if guests stay in the beautiful upstairs and top floor bedrooms/bathrooms. 2. there is more paperwork (submitting reason why you are staying, filling out a form with picture of driver's license, filling out a pre-arrival form, communicating outside the AirBnB app) and suspicion (there is something monitoring for noise, something else apparently tracking arrival by video, a very long manual of do's and don'ts and how much you will be charged if anything goes wrong, additional hourly charges for early arrival) than I have ever had with an AirBnB. That may because it is business vs. homeowner rental, but it was new to me. Other than those factors, great place to stay and highly recommend.

Asfia (review from Airbnb)
House was good but didn’t like the locAtion at all .

Response:
I'm afraid this star rating is not entirely fair. Asfia is one of the rare guests who decided that the Harpers Ferry area was not for them because "My kids didn't really like the area n we didn't find much of activities for them". On the contrary, most guests find plenty to do! Asfia also did not read any of the listing description, the check in instructions, check out instructions, or any of the other materials we provide to make our guests' stays as pleasant as possible. We work hard to make every stay wonderful, and I'm sorry that Asfia did not have that experience!

Bryan (review from Airbnb)
What a great place for our family to stay. Of course, Mountain Mama's place here has everything you would expect from the best AirBnB locations: extremely clean, in great repair, super communication, and well-stocked. This place goes beyond all of that, however. I have never seen a house manual like this one. Very accurate and complete--pretty much everything we could ever wonder is answered here.

If I had to sum up this place in one word, it would be RELAXING! Everything outside seems to melt away as my wife and I and our three children enjoyed the house, hot tub, and the outside activities. I only wish we could have stayed more than two days!

By the way, take the warning about the drive seriously. For those of us more accustomed to driving a minivan on city roads, this is not that! The private road is barely gravel and very long--typical in my experience for West Virginia, but not so much in other areas. As a resident of Western New York, I can't imagine this place in the winter time, but I suppose not much snow will really fall in this area, so maybe it is not too bad. This is not a criticism, of course, just an observation.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would give this place 10, or maybe more. It is a gem and will be a great memory for our family. If we are back in western Maryland and this place is available (except in the winter, maybe), we will certainly be reserving this house again. Absolutely wonderful for our family!

Selina (review from Airbnb)
Our stay at Mountain Mama was amazing! The house was clean and cozy. My big family enjoyed the weekend. The view to the river is stunning. Also the hiking to the river is a challenge but totally worth it. We would definitely keep coming to this gem!

Stephanie (review from Airbnb)
Views incredible! Highly recommend! Lots of nature around you!

Marlyse (review from Airbnb)
Great place!

Alexander (review from Airbnb)
This house is great - great location, great amenities. The perfect place to visit for a vacation in the country. Convenient to lots of things, but well stocked and appointed. We had a great time.

Adam (review from Airbnb)
Wonderful place to spend a few days. Totally secluded. Communication with Mountain Mama was rather difficult. Persistently wanted me to communicate outside of the airbnb platform. Other than that we had a great time.

Response:
We’re glad you enjoyed your stay! As we explained before, we handle most communication via text message after a reservation has been confirmed. Airbnb is just one of a dozen platforms we use to market our properties, and if we tried to use each platform’s native messaging there would be a greater risk of messages falling through the cracks. Text messaging allows us to be as responsive as possible, and most guests actually prefer texting, too! We are very sorry if texting was difficult for you, and sincerely hope that did not detract too much from your stay. We’d be happy to host you again!

Zach (review from Airbnb)
Great location!

Ricky (review from Airbnb)
This stay was absolutely great! The view from the porch/backyard is gorgeous! It was clean and the hot tub was really nice.

The driveway is steep, but during clear sunny weather I made it easily in a Hyundai Elantra so don't worry about the travel if you're in a small vehicle AND the weather is clear!

Lauren S. (review from Vrbo)
Beautiful place!
We loved it! Great area with a relaxing house to come back to every day we were there. No issues at all.

Cecilia (review from Airbnb)
Very nice house, very good location

Bryan M. (review from Vrbo)
Super Quiet and relaxing
Easy rental pricess

Emma (review from Airbnb)
This farmhouse with the front porch sitting was really charming and the back deck with the view and sound from the Shenandoah rapids was stunning.
The beds were so comfortable and we slept well also with the noise makers provided in each room.
The house is way back in the woods and therefore was a bit dirty around the deck and around the fire pit area and needed to be cleaned to be able to sit and enjoy.
The nearby attractions were amazing and we would love to come back here again to visit. Harpers Ferry is not too far and definitely a must place to explore and visit.

Response:
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay! Unfortunately your trip happened to coincide with the highest pollen "storm" that Harpers Ferry has seen all spring--no matter how much you clean the outdoor chairs, they get coated with pollen again within hours. I hope that doesn't deter you from staying with us again (perhaps at another time of year!) because we would love to have you back.

Matt (review from Airbnb)
House is exactly as listed and all questions about the house can be easily answered with the house guidebook. It’s great to have everything you might need included to cut down on packing lists and stress. House was in a beautiful location on top of the hill and was very private.

Christina R. (review from Vrbo)
Great scenery
We had a great time enjoying the scenic River views, the house was very spacious and the house manual was very helpful. I would definitely consider renting this property again in the future.

Giomar (review from Airbnb)
We really had a great time and appreciated the house amenities and beautiful view. This is a really great place to go to with a big group, not only because of the number of beds but also the parking space.

Chrissy (review from Airbnb)
I loved the location and the absolutely breathtaking sunsets from the back deck. I was disappointed that the house as a distinct mildew smell but the host was very responsive and I assume it was addressed after our stay. All in all I would stay here again.

Bruce F. (review from Vrbo)
Great getaway!
Amazing house and the perfect location to getaway.

Donna (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful views. Great House

Jeanine (review from Airbnb)
This place is a cozy home with an amazing view! We loved staying here and will definitely be back. The only drawback is the basement is not set up well for watching movies, but that was overshadowed by the view and the large hot tub. You can see the sunrise, sunset and the Shenandoah right from the tub, fire pit or deck.

Leesa V. (review from Vrbo)
Great place!
Clean, comfortable home with wonderful view. Communication was top-notch. Property is as portrayed in listing. Would recommend to others. Thank you to Mountain Mama Properties for a pleasant stay!

Eric Z. (review from Vrbo)
Great getaway
Loved this property. Hosts were the most responsive I’ve ever had. Surrounding area is gorgeous and we loved the basement game room, hot tub, and fire pit. Topped it off with a trip to dirt farm brewery which is wonderful. Our kids also loved the house and the adjoining bunk beds. We will be back!

Lisa M. (review from Vrbo)
Home was clean, well stocked and comfortable.
The home was beautiful and had everything that we needed. Owners were responsive and accommodating.

Jessica (review from Airbnb)
Home was spacious and had everything we needed. Views were great, especially if you're a bird lover. We saw a lot of different birds, specifically a lot of med/large hawks. Didn't get a chance to go hiking in the area as it was incredibly windy/cold, but the heating unit in the house was great and kept us warm throughout our stay. Would love to come back and stay here again!

Leann (review from Airbnb)
The view is amazing! Everything is as advertised: fire pit, hot tub, extra coffee and condiments, lots of quiet, clean and stocked with everything you need for a peaceful escape.

Paul (review from Airbnb)
The host was easy to get ahold of and helpful. And there were thoughtful touches throughout the house: coffee beans and a grinder in the cabinets, cozy blankets on the bunk beds, and a great selection of games, toys, and books in the basement. Location is beautiful!!

Mary Beth (review from Airbnb)
We enjoyed a weekend bachelorette getaway at Mountain Mama. The home was very nice and clean with a large deck overlooking amazing views of the Shenandoah River. The beds were comfortable. Everything we could have asked for was provided in the home. The host was responsive. My only suggestion is if you visit in the wintertime be prepared to be snowed in. There is a large hill that leads up to the home and it snowed while we were there. We could not get up the hill (even in 4 wheel drive vehicle) once it snowed so were stuck inside until we left. I would definitely stay here again.

Sabrina (review from Airbnb)
It was a wonderful getaway for the weekend. Very peaceful and relaxing at night listening to the river. We would definitely stay here again!

Brendan (review from Airbnb)
Great view and house was very clean.
Great getaway for family with kids.

Jon (review from Airbnb)
This place was breathtaking!
The view was beautiful!
The hot tub was incredible!
We will definitely stay again.

Ashley (review from Airbnb)
Great stay. Great view. It was very relaxing. Only critique was the “spa” instructions seemed a bit overboard - daily messages regarding chemicals and photo when leaving. Other than that, everything was grand! :-)

Laurel (review from Airbnb)
My friends and I just got back from a wonderful weekend at the Terra Alta! We were a pretty large group (11 adults, 2 toddlers), but we were comfortable in the house. The view was stunning and enjoying it from the hot tub was just amazing. The house had a well-stocked kitchen and a plenty of linens and towels for our crew. Eddie's guestbook includes detailed instructions with everything you need to know for your stay. The area had received snow several days before our trip. Even though the driveway had been plowed and most of it was clear, there were still a few areas where ice covered the tracks for the tires. Luckily, we had one car with 4WD drive that could make it up the icy steep driveway and we were able to park our other cars at a nearby store. The listing mentions this situation is possible and 4WD may be needed to drive up to the house and I just wanted to reiterate that you keep this as a consideration. My friends and I still had a wonderful time even though we had to do some trouble-shooting surrounding this issue.

Michael (review from Airbnb)
Great trip with fantastic views. Available board games made for great family time.

RuthAnn (review from Airbnb)
The house is really wonderful. Went to get out of the city for a few days after Christmas and it was perfect. The hot tub and fire pit were great and the view of the river is amazing. Eddie was very attentive and even came out on New Year’s Day to help us with the grill that needed a new tank!

Michael (review from Airbnb)
The house is roomy and comfortable. The view and the hot tub are spectacular.

Shiraz (review from Airbnb)
This place was a great getaway for us. We really enjoyed the location and views. Hot tub made the whole stay even more fun. Highly recommended!

Nayan (review from Airbnb)
Great location for weekend getaway! Beautiful views!

Kyle (review from Airbnb)
Fantastic getaway, everything was perfect. It was a wonderful spot to get out of the city and enjoy some mountain time with friends around a fire overlooking the river, couldn't have asked for more. Home was great, clean and accommodating. Definitely recommend staying here!

Sharon (review from Airbnb)
The view is spectacular. The place has pretty much everything. The beds are comfortable. It was a pleasant stay that we would happily do again.

Karla (review from Airbnb)
We loved our stay. The view is stunning and the home is cozy. The beds are very comfortable and has great amenities. The only heads up: WiFi might not work while you’re there. Other than that, you’ll love it.

Wesley (review from Airbnb)
A wonderful and very relaxing stay. We can't wait to go back!!

Jonathan (review from Airbnb)
Great stay, lots of space

Linda (review from Airbnb)
Thank you for a great home away from home, the location was serene with gorgeous views overlooking the river. The house was welcoming and had all we needed to start our mini vacation. Eddie was a wonderful host, would definitely stay here again!

Jennifer R. (review from Vrbo)
Beautiful location! Beautiful views!
Very very nice house. Hot tub was lots of fun! Comfortable beds. Extra towels for hot tub were very touch. Living room upstairs and down stairs were used often.

Suggestions: would recommend adding screens to windows on lower floor. Additionally listing said coffee was provided but their wasn’t enough so we had to run out to buy. Also no olive oil or vegetable oil, garlic, etc.

Would come back!

Response:
We're so glad you enjoyed the house! We're sorry, though, to hear anything was missing during your stay. We're always standing by to make sure our guests have everything they need. We would have happily told you where to find supplies or would have hand delivered them if they were missing. We look forward to hosting you again in the future!

Wonderful Getaway
We needed to get away for our Anniversary. What a beautiful place very relaxing. We will be going back. Loved seeing and hearing the river. Also got to see alot of wildlife even Eagles.

Rachel (review from Airbnb)
Gorgeous location, really enjoyed the view from the deck. The walk down to the river was nice too! Lots of hiking nearby. Lots of bugs in the house, but all harmless stink bugs and crickets, to be expected around this time of year. The upstairs bath was lovely as well.

Dawn (review from Airbnb)
Had a lovely stay. Enjoyed meals from the deck overlooking the river. Lit up the wood stove each evening. Relaxed in the hot tub. Everything was lovely.

Morgan (review from Airbnb)
This home was just what we were looking for. Secluded and cozy. The beds were comfortable and the decks offered plenty of comfortable seating options with amazing views. The views were to die for and the sounds of nature surrounding the home make you feel so at peace. The home is spacious, updated and well kept. The hosts are responsive and wonderful to deal with. The hot tub was an amazing touch. Propane grill on the back deck was a great touch. Fire pit with hanging lights made the night time s’mores making such a hit. We will definitely be back.

Kevin (review from Airbnb)
Had a great time staying here. Really a great value given the view, hot tub, cleanliness and quality of the house itself. The Wifi was slow as advertised but did work in a pinch, and the host was responsive with any questions I had. Would recommend!

Mackenzie (review from Airbnb)
Amazing views and very close to Harpers’s Ferry. House was clean and a lot of fun!

Make sure you read the directions to the house and use Apple Maps to navigate, Waze and Google will send you down North Memorial road which is incorrect.

Drew (review from Airbnb)
The view from the back deck is worth the stay alone! Hot tub was awesome and the overall accommodations were great!

Heather (review from Airbnb)
The house was beautiful and spotless. We had a wonderful time and would definitely rent again.

Tom (review from Airbnb)
The view is great! The deck is great for family time, bedrooms were super clean and communication with Eddie during the stay was top notch.

We loved our stay with Mountain Mama Homes! The house was beautiful and clean. We had plenty of room for 9 of us to stay comfortably! The location was so peaceful and beautiful we spent the majority of our vacation at the house! It was a short drive to the river where we kayaked each day, otherwise the rest of our time was spent relaxing f on the porch, deck, hot tub, and in the cozy House! We loved our stay and Eddie was so accommodating and so easy to work with! We cannot wait to plan our next trip! Thank you Mountain Mama Homes!

Awesome place, wish we could have stayed longer, comfortable clean and lots to do... definitely would go back!

Samuel (review from Airbnb)
Eddies house was the perfect spot for our group. The view from the house and seclusion can’t be beat! The house is a perfect size for a bigger group and has everything you need. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Joe (review from Airbnb)
Exactly as described on the Airbnb website. The dining room was great for getting together each evening for dinner and games. Outstanding view from the deck.

Sydney (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful as always. This was my second time staying here and I will of course be back!

David (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful place, spectacular view.

Clarence (review from Airbnb)
We stayed at this house in July of 2021 and had a great experience during our stay. The view of the Potomac from the house alone is what first caught our eye in wanting to stay here. Grilling, drinking and chilling on the deck with that view was a popular activity during our stay. The beds were very comfy and allowed for great sleep during our stay. The basement was great for table games and watching TV (Wi-Fi was available so were able to watch what we wanted through our own provided streaming services on the TV). Overall, the stay feels secluded enough for a great quiet vacation while close enough to stores to ensure we had the supplies we needed at the house. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly come back again.

Great spot!
This property was a great place for my family of 5 and my parents to get away for a few days. Gorgeous views (especially while drinking my coffee on the deck in the AM)!

Moshe (review from Airbnb)
We had such a good time last year that we decided to come again. As we approached the house, the entire family broke out with gleeful smiles from memories of our last stay. Needless to say, we had a great time. The kids asked whose house it was and just felt sorry that Eddie couldn't enjoy the house himself. Thanks.

Danny (review from Airbnb)
Eddie was great, always made sure we were doing alright and enjoying the stay. Couldn’t ask for a better host!

Moisés (review from Airbnb)
Amazing place! If you're thinking of visiting West Virginia to explore to get away. This is a must book! I had a great getaway and enjoyed my stay from beginning to end. The house overlooks the river, it comes with a jacuzzi and you feel as if you were home. Eddie was great and replied quickly before and after my stay. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants to experience nature at it's finest.

Mitchel (review from Airbnb)
Overall the home was great. The view is worth the price of admission! There was 8 of us and we had plenty of space both indoor and outdoors. The host is very responsive and the house manual is thorough (definitely read it). The noise meter had us a bit worried, but it wasn’t bad at all, just be mindful of neighbors. The only thing I could kind of complain about is the hike down to the river is a bit steep, but the location on the river makes up for it. All in all, we had an awesome time! I’d definitely stay here again and recommend to all friends and family. Thanks Eddie!

Ps - if we do stay again I’d like one of those mountain momma mugs 😉.

Stephanie (review from Airbnb)
I’m mad… that I couldn’t stay longer!! A day or two is just not long enough for this place. This house is amazing, views are absolutely beautiful, amenities are awesome. It was just what the doctor ordered. Book it!.. You will not be disappointed.

Grace (review from Airbnb)
The home was even more beautiful than the pictures. Nothing compares to sitting in the hot tub on a cool night, overlooking the rapids of the Shenandoah River. All the furniture and appliances were such high quality. Great place if you're looking for a secluded getaway.

Jeff T. (review from Vrbo)
River Perfect
The location could not be more perfect and the house is well maintained. The property management was the best I've experienced with every detail laid out in an easy to navigate form. Would rent again and recommend to friend's.

Daniel (review from Airbnb)
Eddie’s home is amazing. The location, the amenities, and the scenery is just perfect. We couldn’t have asked for anything else during our weekend getaway. I highly recommend staying at Mountain Mama!

Alice (review from Airbnb)
This is a gem of a place. The view can’t be beat and the grounds are quite extensive, fun exploring the trail through the woods that leads to the river. We went with a big group and found there was plenty of space for all. Eddie is quick to respond to any needs - an excellent host!

Caroline (review from Airbnb)
Comfortable stay with great views of the Shenandoah near Harpers Ferry. Eddie was an excellent host, very responsive to our questions.

Saskia (review from Airbnb)
A wonderful place for a weekend mountain getaway! We had a chillier weekend than we expected so the hot tub was amazing - not to mention the killer views from the backyard! The beds were comfortable and the house had everything we needed. Eddie was extremely responsive and even went out of his way to send coffee to us when it was out. Thanks for a great weekend!

Andrea (review from Airbnb)
Eddie’s place provided a wonderful and comforting atmosphere for our vaccinated reunion of friends. The view, the hot tub, the surroundings—would recommend it all! Eddie was also a fast communicator and provided all the information we needed. Kitchen is a little short stocked, with some of the pots in poor quality and dull knives, so if you plan to make something elaborate you may want to bring some extra things.

Judy (review from Airbnb)
This is a truly beautiful comfortable property in a spectacular location. Host is responsive and pro-active in keeping guests informed. Would definitely return. In a heartbeat.

Nick (review from Airbnb)
I would remove the age discrimination description from your listing as this is a violation of Fair Housing Law. Host makes assumptions based on group dynamic. Otherwise, great location, plenty of activities to do and clean stay.

Response:
I’m disappointed that Nick would leave a negative review when he had a perfect stay. His complaint seems to be about our policy of requiring that the guest making a reservation be 25 years of age or older. That policy is consistent with federal, state, and local law—our attorney confirmed that before the policy was enacted. The federal Fair Housing Act (which he seems to be referencing) applies only to rentals of 30 days or longer and thus does not apply to his one-night stay. In any case, age is not a protected class under the Act, anyway. I’m glad that the vast majority of guests understand that this policy is aimed at being a good neighbor and keeping members of the community happy so that we can continue welcoming guests to Harpers Ferry for years to come.

Jen (review from Airbnb)
The home is just like the pictures! Beautiful and serene!!!! We cannot wait to return!!! If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing stay this is your place!!!! They provide everything!!! Even shampoo/conditioner and hand soaps. Eddie is amazing and answers all your questions promptl. He is a great host!!!!

Brianna (review from Airbnb)
Amazing home, views and owner! The home is so beautiful, welcoming and equipped. Eddie provides all the details you’ll need to be comfortable and is always available for assistance. Our only complaint is that we didn’t book a longer stay!

Anne (review from Airbnb)
This was the perfect getaway. Eddie's house was extremely clean and exactly as described. The view is awesome and Eddie was extremely prompt with communication. If we are in the area again, we will definitely stay there!

Would highly recommend it! Beautiful place and very communicative owner!

Eddie’s place was BY FAR our favorite place we’ve ever stayed at. It was beautiful and secluded. The hottub overlooking the view was incredible!

Patrick (review from Airbnb)
We very much enjoyed our stay. Eddie was very responsive to my messages. The location was very private while still only being a short drive to nearby attractions. The house had beautiful views of the river that could be enjoyed while grilling on the deck, sitting in the hot tub, or sitting by the fire pit.

Kayla (review from Airbnb)
Our group thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house was beautiful and had so many wonderful amenities. We loved the hot tub and fire ring and being able to see and hear the Shenandoah River below! The trails, wineries and local downtown areas were also conveniently located. We would like to come visit the area again and would stay definitely stay at a Montain Mama home!

Einav (review from Airbnb)
Really great house, super nice! Lots of bedrooms and beautiful views. Remote and lovely.

Daniel (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful home, awesome set up, clear instructions that made everything a breeze! Hoping to return this summer.

Jason (review from Airbnb)
a nice clean fun place to stay

Emily H. (review from Vrbo)
Beautiful and has everything you could need
We were impressed by how well prepared the place was for guests. We always wonder what the kitchen might have. No problems with that here--they had an immersion blender! Absolutely gorgeous and calm.

Mario (review from Airbnb)
Amazing location with great views of the Shenandoah River and the skyline. Convenient to Harpers Ferry and the surrounding area. The house itself was very comfortable and had more than enough rooms to fit 4 adults (two couples) and four kids. Eddie was very communicative and responsive. Highly recommend.

Thomas (review from Airbnb)
Great views from the house where it is easy to relax.

Kevin (review from Airbnb)
Great stay!

Josh (review from Airbnb)
****LOOK NO FUTHER FOR PEACE AND TRANQUILITY**** We went to clear our minds of all the crazy in the world and came to the right place. The view is to die for - the jacuzzi is a really expensive one that massages everything and has a light show to boot and the fire pit location is on point with a solo stove FP. Don’t walk - run to this place. Seriously.

Lisa (review from Airbnb)
Loved the house and the view. Had a very relaxing time!

Miguel (review from Airbnb)
Our stay was amazing! We enjoyed staying warm by the fire and relaxing in the hot tub as well as eating lunch on the beautiful deck and hang out in the sun with some hammocks. The walk down to the water was nice and we were able to choose from a variety of longer hikes in the area. The view from the property is amazing any time of day.

Braden (review from Airbnb)
This house was as described. We only had 4 people, but you could COMFORTABLY have 8. Huge place, amazing view.

WiFi in the house wasn't working at all, but as described really strong cell service (on AT&T and T-Mobile), so hotspots worked fine.

Only downside is that the hottub really couldn't maintain heat for more than about 2 minutes against 50 degree temps. But, se la vie. Rest of the house and stay were great!

Response:
I'm glad you had a great time! I'm not sure why you were having difficulty with the spa. We checked after you left and it heats up well and maintains heat without any issues. None of our guests (including those after your stay) have had the same issue you described. Looking forward to hosting you again!

Maryam (review from Airbnb)
Such a beautiful home with a gorgeous view. The hosts were so nice and responsive. I’m very picky with cleanliness and this place was spotless! I was thrilled to see how clean and beautiful it was. If I visit West Virginia again, I will definitely return to this Airbnb. Absolutely loved it!

Caroline (review from Airbnb)
Absolutely loved staying here! The place was very clean and the amenities were awesome. Eddie left a great guide with thorough instructions on everything + tips for the area. Definitely a 5/5 stay!

Danielle (review from Airbnb)
We enjoyed our time at the cabin immensely. The location overlooking the river, the rooms, the hot tub, everything was perfect. We will certainly book another stay there to see it in the summer.

Jordan (review from Airbnb)
Nice cozy spot. Very tucked away with a nice view of the river.

Katie (review from Airbnb)
I would definitely recommend staying here, the house was perfect for our large group and the host was great at communicating everything we needed to know for our stay. He even provided a personalized note and gift. The view from the back deck is absolutely incredible. The location comes at a cost, though. It is not exactly easy to get to. You can get there in a regular car but any inclement weather and you definitely need a truck/4 wheel drive. Luckily our group had no plans to leave the house during our stay as getting up and down the mountain is quite a journey.

Arthur (review from Airbnb)
Great place to disconnect and enjoy a quiet retreat with friends or loved ones. Enjoyed amazing views, both while hanging out by the fire pit and while chilling out in the hot tub. Very comfortable, clean, and quaint home. Eddie is a top notch host.

Marisol (review from Airbnb)
My friend and I did a short trip out to Harper’s Ferry and had a great time! The house was spotless and very accommodating. The view is beautiful, especially from the hot tub! The house is spacious and well decorated. We had a great and comfortable stay!

Megan (review from Airbnb)
My partner and I wanted a quiet romantic weekend away and this place was the right choice! The rustic setting is great for hiking. The view of the Shenandoah River from multiple windows, deck, and hot tub are beautiful and unobstructed by the well-spaced houses several hundreds of yards away. It is secluded enough to make you feel like you're alone on the hill but just a 10 minute drive to great winery! We only had the two of us but the house is spacious enough to comfortably accommodate a small extended family trip (which we might do in the future). Our favorite part was there were lots of interesting books, puzzles, games, and no TV! Makes for an easy "unplugged getaway". Cell service is reliable and good enough to stream video if you're a fish out of water without something to watch. The fully stocked kitchen was easy to cook in. It was easy to make this place a home away from home. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Talia (review from Airbnb)
A really beautiful place to stay, the Airbnb was clean and prepared well for us. When we had an issue with the kitchen sink, Eddie immediately contacted a plumber to fix the issue, working around our schedule for it. Only disappointment was that we had to leave early because of the weather, so be sure to check if there's a storm expected because the drive really is precarious without chains. However, Eddie was very thoughtful and didn't rush us out. Overall, a wonderful time away in the woods.

Angela (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful views, a great place to escape.

Quick recharge oasis
This was a fabulous getaway for my husband and I. It was close to home, very tranquil and just what we needed. Although the house would be a great family stay as well, the quiet, hot tub and setting was a perfect recharge for us! The owner was amazing in weather related needs and took extra efforts to make sure we were safe! We will be back! Thank you for sharing this home with others!

Anna (review from Airbnb)
Had a lovely stay at the house, the view is just spectacular! Eddie is always available for questions practically instantaneously which was awesome especially because we were dealing with snow as well. The road up to the house can be nerve wracking in snow or rain, and so I second that four wheel drive would be very important for adverse weather. The hot tub was blissful and is clearly very well cared for, so we could trust that it was being properly maintained. Eddie asked that we add chemicals as needed and so be prepared to cover hot tub maintenance so that you and others can enjoy it. He gives instructions to make it easy and is always available for questions. I literally saw a bald eagle while sitting on the deck drinking my coffee in the morning. This house is an epic experience, and a welcome break from covid fatigue. Can't wait to return!

Donald (review from Airbnb)
Eddie is very accommodating and was a joy to communicate with. We look forward to booking another trip with him soon!

What a view !

Amy (review from Airbnb)
Our experience was well above expectations.
The ambience alone is breathtaking. The host was very accommodating and staying in the home brought us peace of mind.
Adventure hike across the driveway, so very clean and very convenient regarding WiFi all of our needs.
Looking forward to staying again in the future!

Great place
Awesome rental right on the Shenandoah! Hot tub was wonderful and the host, Eddie, was great!

Steven (review from Airbnb)
This was an spot away from the city with the sound of water, good views, and a large hot tub

Karlo David (review from Airbnb)
This was our first time staying at an Airbnb and Eddie set the bar really high up! The place already looked so inviting in the pictures but it hits you even more in person! My wife and I booked it for our close friends to celebrate after an intimate wedding and everybody had a blast. Eddie even left a bottle of wine for us upon check in to congratulate us on our wedding. The place is cozy and clean, the jacuzzi warm, and the view from the bonfire is just immaculate. Thanks Eddie for being a wonderful host! It was a memorable experience for all of us and we definitely recommend this place!

Hector (review from Airbnb)
Excellent cabin. Great jacuzzi. AMAZING VIEWS.

Matt (review from Airbnb)
Wonderful relaxation with great views. This is a great place to quietly unwind with views of the Shenandoah river, enjoy a soak in the hot tub, or go for a walk along the river. It's quick drive into town and to get to other hiking trails or historic sites. Full kitchen for cooking family meals (and the local Charles Town grocery store is really nice!) and plenty of space. The hosts provided a nice selection of board games too -- and a surprisingly well-stocked collection of classical literature on the bookshelves too.

Cooper (review from Airbnb)
The Mountain Mama Vacation Riverhouse is the perfect getaway near Harper's Ferry! Tucked up on the hillside with privacy and beautiful views, this property offers a cozy spot to relax and unwind. My friends and I especially enjoyed the campfire and the hot tub. Not to mention, Eddie is a helpful and generous host! I would love to come back.

Sasha (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful house with an amazing view. Owner is very quick to respond and very understanding! Would definitely come back and can’t recommend this listing more.

Sarah (review from Airbnb)
We had a great stay at the river house with our friends. We had 4 adults and 4 teenagers and had plenty of room, we didn't even use one of the bedrooms. On a warmer day, we walked down to the river, sat around the fire outside talking and roasting marshmallows, and relaxing in the hot tub. The views of the river are amazing! On the colder day, we played games in the basement and watched a movie (downloaded from Netflix on my phone and connected to the TV with an HDMI cable that we brought). The house was very clean, the kitchen had everything we needed (cooked all meals there), beds were comfy, and there were lots of books and games available too. Eddie responded to questions quickly and provided lots of helpful information for our stay. Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday getaway!

Venky (review from Airbnb)
Loved our stay here! Comfy beds, clean bathrooms, and spacious furnished basement. The whole family enjoyed the hot tub (make sure you go in the night and day!), there was a nice fire pit outside, and the view of the river and skyline was outstanding. This is the definition of a welcoming staycation cabin!

Silvia (review from Airbnb)
Eddie was so communicative and had an all-purpose guide to the house. It's a huge three-story cabin with a lot of indoor and outdoor space. We took advantage of all the amenities on our stay mainly the kitchen and hot tub. We would definitely come back!

Bridget (review from Airbnb)
My second time staying here-such a great home.

Secluded getaway
The cabin is gorgeous and secluded, with private access to the river and wonderful views from the deck. A really cozy and wonderful getaway.

Sara (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful views, great amenities. Perfect for a small family getaway!

Stevie (review from Airbnb)
This place is great! The house and property were as described and our group had a great time. The views from the house are amazing. It is well situated near Charles Town, Harper's Ferry, and other great spots to run, hike and fish. Bonus - the house has satellite wifi, meaning it is too slow to stream on the tv, but will allow you to connect for basic email, etc. And as the host stated, we had solid Verizon coverage at the house and surrounding area. Looking forward to visiting again in warmer weather!

Mohammad (review from Airbnb)
Great place!

Thanksgiving on the River
The views were a great escape from the city, the outdoor spaces were fantastic, and amenities were all as depicted. We were concerned the house would be too small for 6 adults and 2 kids but we found it cozy and comfy, no complaints. If we had to find something wrong with the house, we’d say the house was clean, but not immaculate. Would we stay again, absolutely!

Kim (review from Airbnb)
We stayed at this property just prior to Thanksgiving. It was a much needed break away for our family and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
The house has everything we needed, we wanted for nothing.
The surroundings are beautiful, I could never tire of seeing the river morning, noon and night. Gorgeous views.
We had no trouble finding the house and Eddie checked in with us just as much as we needed.
Seeing deer every time we left and returned was the icing on the cake!
Thank you!

Melanie (review from Airbnb)
Amazing stay! The house and location is absolutely beautiful and the hot tub was AMAZING!

Terri (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful home with beautiful river views. Eddie is a great host and very responsive to any questions. Relaxing place to get away from it all.

Kunzum (review from Airbnb)
It was very pleasant staying there. House is in perfect location and the view is breath taking. Plus, the sound of river is so smoothing.
House is super clean with lots of games and plenty of space. Perfect place for group and gateway from hectic life.
Don’t worry about the network, you will have great connection. We had a T-Mobile and it worked perfectly.

Also, Eddie is top notch host. But the direction can be bit confusing so make sure to read all the direction that Eddie provides you.

FYI-Make sure to warm hot tub ahead of time. It takes a at least two hour to get warm.

Tim (review from Airbnb)
Location is impressive and the view of the river is extraordinary. Off the beaten path location was ideal for us, we enjoyed passing the packs of deer daily on the gravel road. Close to Charles Town for whatever supplies we needed, but the location of the house did not feel like we were "in town", far from that feeling actually. Hot tub was clean and overlooked said view. Nicely appointed rooms, spacious, good coffee in the kitchen. Our two elementary aged kids had a very nice time, the grounds were fun for them to explore. Communication with the host was very good. Host was always helpful.

Erin (review from Airbnb)
The view was WAY better than expected. Its hard to tell how good of a view you might have from the deck/hot tub based on the pictures, but the view of the river was incredible! Lots of fun board games and puzzles. I have Verizon and had perfect cell reception and was able to hotspot and stream Netflix on the smart TV downstairs. I really appreciated the hospitality and quick responses from the owner. I definitely recommend this stay!

Melissa (review from Airbnb)
Great views, and the fire pit was our favorite part. There is a hike to the water, but some of the flag markers were on trees that had been cut down.

Fair warning there is a lot of trash on the beach. Regardless, it was a nice break from home and so nice to eat out on the deck and hear the rapids.

Very private.

Amy (review from Airbnb)
Lovely location up high in the mountains overlooking the Shenandoah. Edward was very communicative and helpful prior to and during our stay. We loved working our way through the extensive stack of board games!

Kate (review from Airbnb)
A delightful cabin by the Shenandoah River. Very private and peaceful. The cabin has everything you need for a getaway and is lovely and clean and comfortable.

Christina (review from Airbnb)
Overall our stay was great. Hosts were quick and helpful to respond. Our GPS took us right to house. Landscaping is as described in listing. The kitchen was prefect for cooking. Deck was great for eating outside. We enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit. Everything was clean and we enjoyed the downstairs for pokergames the wood burner and watching movie. WiFi is as described in listing. We used hotspot in our phone to get anything useable for streaming. The view outback is wonderful. Harpers Ferry was a quick 20 mins away.

Karen (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful place.

Ian (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful place with many great views. Central to many awesome hiking spots and good food. Ed was a great host. Perfect for a nature oriented getaway.

Meron (review from Airbnb)
The river house was one of the most cleanest and homies airbnb place I ever stayed. The sunset view from the fire-pit was my favorite. Second favorite was coffee on the balcony early in the morning with a river view. A lot of privacy if you go with a group of people. The kitchen comes with everything you need. So lovely!

Katherine (review from Airbnb)
Great location! Very private and had a lovely view. Would love to come back.

Frederick (review from Airbnb)
Great Views of the River. The house also had a washer and dryer, which we were not expecting. I would stay at the house again.

Tiffany (review from Airbnb)
Great house with so many amenities and an amazing view. Very family friendly, even stocked with kids toys and board games. We loved the hot tub over looking the river and the fire pit. We stayed here with two families (4 adults and 3 kids) and had plenty of space. The host, Eddie, was very responsive.

Brittany (review from Airbnb)
We had a great stay at this house and plenty of space for 9 adults. We enjoyed the views and seclusion, but also took in some local breweries and vineyards that were within 20-30 mins. This stay is clean, cozy, welcoming and a great retreat from everyday life.

Rachel (review from Airbnb)
Eddie’s place was perfect for our family getaway. The views from the deck are amazing, and the place had everything we needed. Stay here if you want a nice, relaxing vacation.

Great Getaway
We enjoyed our weekend away with friends celebrating their 25th anniversary COVID style. The house is very clean and comfortable. The view over the river is spectacular. Eddie is a pleasure to deal with. All of us had a great time hiking and kayaking in the area. It was a wonderful weekend!

Debbi (review from Airbnb)
The views from the backyard are amazing. The hike to the river offered even better views. My family can’t wait to rent this one again. Very clean and comfortable. Plenty of room for everyone. Excellent host!

Andre (review from Airbnb)
Edward’s place is the perfect restorative retreat. Between the view of the river, tranquil sound of rushing water in the back round, dips in the hot tub, story time around the fire pit and all the amenities you could ever need we only wished we could’ve stayed longer. All the details Edward provided were very helpful and he was excellent with communication. I highly recommend his place.

Luke (review from Airbnb)
Edwards place was great! Very clean, spacious, and secluded! The walk to the river was very easy and the views were unbelievable. I’d absolutely recommend this place for anyone looking to stay near Harpers Ferry or Charlestown

Bri (review from Airbnb)
Loved the beautiful view from the deck and hot tub. It was the perfect space for a getaway in nature. We can't wait to come again with some friends. The space was very comfortable and welcoming, with some endearing personal touches, and the host is very friendly and responsive. Truly a great experience, with our only regret being unable to stay longer.
However, the host does have a camera on the front door and is very involved in the stay, and this may be off-putting to some who are very concerned about privacy.
Overall though, highly recommend!

Tiffany (review from Airbnb)
Edwards place is the perfect place to go to enjoy nature and put those screens away. The view is breathtaking and we enjoyed having wine by the fire at night and coffee in the morning. Close to hiking, breweries, wineries and more. We did walk down to the river using Edwards detailed instructions and found it no problem but wear good shoes! It was just my husband and I on this trip but the house is perfect for large families or groups, plenty of sleeping space and the bed we slept in (first floor) was SO comfy with down blankets and pillows. Edward is very organized and attentive to detail which made this an easy and awesome stay. Highly recommend.

Courtney (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful views! Really close to Harper’s Ferry and our kids can’t wait to go back!

Great cabin with great views!

Diana (review from Airbnb)
I’m a regular Airbnb use and most of my experiences have been great or good. Bum I am a little disappointed about this one for a couple of reasons. 1) I didn’t see any nice touches that would make me feel at home. Also, the communication with the owner and the way information about check-in and out was provided felt very systematic or robotic. I do appreciate however, that he allowed us to check in one hour early since the cleaning crew finished cleaning early. However, there is not attention to detail in the cleaning of the house. The bed sheets smelled like they had not been washed. Also, I had a very unfortunate encounter with a cleaning crew that had come back to the house to drop off a sponge to wash dishes while I was asking her questions about the hot tub water color. She basically vented on how she hated to clean rental properties because people who rented them complained for insignificant reasons in order to avoid the cleaning fee and went on to accused me of that, something that I have never done. I called the owner twice and left a voice mail to complaint about this and I just received a message from him later apologizing for it. All of this kind ruined the relax vibe that we were trying to accomplish on the first date.

Response:
I don't think this is a fair review. I'm surprised to hear she found my messages "robotic" as I was personally in touch with her almost hourly before and during her reservation to answer her many questions, and even arranged for her to check in early. When she couldn't find a kitchen sponge (which was there all along) I asked someone from my cleaning team to drop one off, bending over backward to make sure she had everything she needed. I wasn't there for the encounter, but my cleaning person said this guest belittled her, was rude, and didn't at all appreciate that she (my cleaner) was making a special trip to the house just for this guest. My cleaning person tried to keep the conversation as short as possible. I was in a meeting when the guest called to complain, and that was the one time that whole day when I didn't respond immediately to her requests. We always do everything we can to make our guests happy, but this is the rare case where bending over backward to please is met with rudeness and a spiteful 2-star review.

Kati (review from Airbnb)
We loved Edwards place. From the moment we booked he was very communicative and the travel book has so many good pointers. The house is secluded and you can hear the river and just relax and breath. The layout worked for our group (two families including five kids under eight) and the kids loved the bunk room. The deck is amazing and a place we ate at and spent a lot of our time. The kitchen is pretty well stocked - we made dinner there three of four nights. The house itself is very cozy and you just want to snuggle up and read.

The house is really about 20 minutes to everything - we went to Charles Town for amazing tacos, Harpers Ferry for hiking, HF Brewery and rafting and Virginia for a winery afternoon. The hike down to the river wasn’t bad - just follow Eddies instructions.

We really enjoyed our last summer weekend and can’t wait to come back again.

Cathy (review from Airbnb)
The house was perfect for our group, three adults and two children; there certainly was room for a few more. The door code to enter the house worked easily. There was plenty of parking out front. The spacious front porch was surrounded by hydrangea, making the views all around the house so nice. The back deck has a nice grill, umbrella, very nice large table and lots of outdoor seating, with really beautiful view of the river and then the mountains across the river. The house is as pretty and clean as pictured. It is spacious, giving everyone room for privacy if wanted, but cozy and comfortable, too. There are baby gates at the stairs to protect small children if needed. There were plenty of towels, and more towels downstairs in the laundry room for use of the hot tub! The kitchen was well equipped with nice appliances, plenty of dishes and flatware, coffee pot and coffee bean grinder, making cooking meals at home easy (considering Covid restrictions - we didn't have to try to dine out, plus we got to enjoy family time eating together). There was dish soap, even shampoo in the bathrooms, paper towels, napkins, and toilet paper, which was nice not to have to bring. The hot tub worked great, and was especially nice since we had a couple rainy days! We saw lots of deer (no bears!), enjoyed bike rides and walking at Harper's Ferry, didn't get to go tubing because the current was strong after the rain, so they wouldn't rent to kids under 12. We really enjoyed the house, and we were pleased with the quick response to any questions we had before arriving.

A Fantastic get away
This place is great to get away from it all but close enough to result and to multiple site for our door people

Matthew (review from Airbnb)
We really enjoyed our stay. It’s a beautiful home with an amazing view of the river from the back deck. We’ll definitely be staying here again soon.

Idyllic rural setting in a beautiful part of WV
We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this property: the
basement area with games and puzzles, woodland walk down to the river bank, the hot tub, and grilling on the spacious deck. The only slight disappointment was that the kitchen was not very clean, although the bathrooms were good. We also loved all the hiking opportunities for younger enthusiasts and slower parents! Having never visited WV before we were blown away by how friendly everyone was and by the choice of great dining options - we will definitely be back.

A great place to stay for a weekend get away. Edward was an amazing host and super responsive. The check in was a breeze and the place has excellent views. The location was great and super easy to find. This is the perfect place if you are looking for a weekend away and enjoy the outdoors and would recommend to everyone.

Kristin (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful views and the host was very responsive to my questions. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Laura (review from Airbnb)
Eddie's house was everything we were looking for: amazing views, hot tub, fire pit, tucked away but still close to town, and so much more. Our group had a great time during our weekend trip. The house is clean (and much bigger than expected), check-in/out was simple and Eddie was very communicative the entire time. We were very appreciative of the online house manual which outlined everything we needed to know about both the house and the town. We would absolutely recommend staying here.

Matty (review from Airbnb)
My group of friends had an amazing time staying at Edward’s place! The space was very clean and had so much room. We were really comfortable and the view is gorgeous! We would love to stay again!

Jeanne (review from Airbnb)
Our stay at Edward's home was perfect for our family. We had plenty of space to hang out and enjoy the privacy and beautiful nature surrounding this home. The house was loaded with all the amenities needed to make our vacation amazing. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a quiet location near Harpers Ferry.

Kevin (review from Airbnb)
Wonderful secluded spot on the river. Close enough to attractions such as hiking, breweries and the casino yet far enough away to feel like you were in the nature.

The hike is a bit more confusing than expected but well worth it once you get down to the river. Would 100 percent recommend to anyone looking to take a nice vacation.

Kate (review from Airbnb)
This air B and B is amazing! The view and hot tub were enough for me 😍. There’s also a little path you can take to a secluded beach area, it’s a little steep but definitely worth it. Beds were super comfy, plenty of room for me and my family during the stay!

Beautiful Escape
This house is amazing. So clean and tidy. Stunning views from the deck of the mountains and river. Huge hot tub. Great firepit area. The walk down to the river is a steep climb but worth it for the seclusion and fun down there. Just wouldn't recommend it for little kids. Will be back for sure!

William (review from Airbnb)
Serene beauty and an excellent place to have a no tech retreat. Grab a book and a nice drink and relax in the woods. Get in touch with nature and stare in amazement at the mighty Shenandoah.

David (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful home with lots of space. Just a short drive from many restaurants, shops, and attractions, though it is still a secluded getaway.

Moshe (review from Airbnb)
Stunning views, exciting activities, and cozy accommodations. A true vacation! Our 3 little ones loved the games, toys, fire pit, hammock, and bunk beds. My favorite was drinking coffee on the deck listening to the rush of the river close by. Eddie was also very responsive. Great stay.

Nancy (review from Airbnb)
We highly recommend renting this Airbnb. The owners were very responsive and friendly and provided great suggestions regarding what to do and where to eat. They recommended 868 winery and it was fantastic. We felt safe and the wine and food was very good. But you will want to spend lots of time enjoying the house and the incredible views. The house was very clean and well equipped. There is lots of room to spread out and relax. We loved the hot tub and fire pit and the views from the deck.

Robert (review from Airbnb)
Eddie's place was excellent. The house was clean and well furnished. All three full baths are very usable. Eddie is very responsive. It was so nice listening to the river from the deck and hot tub.

Brittany (review from Airbnb)
Eddie's cabin provides a beautiful and comfy weekend getaway. As a Birthday trip, my friends and I wanted to go kayaking and tubing on the Shenandoah and have a great place to relax and unwind after being on the river. The location is about a 15 minute drive to a river outfitters and small public river beach, so that was perfect for us. The hike to the river is a bit steep but very beautiful. The hot tub and HUGE upstairs bath were great for soaking in and all of the beds were so comfortable. We loved that there were so many social spaces such as the deck, game room, and fire pit. The kitchen was fully stocked so we were able to prepare and cook our meals during our stay. We truly loved spending our weekend getaway here!

Julianna (review from Airbnb)
Eddie was so quick to respond with all his communication. He is a great host. My family of 4 stayed here for a week. We loved the place. The view is better than you can properly see in any photo. What a find. The house, location, hot tub, and family friendliness. Everything you could want to do is nearby drive or just relax in the home and take in the surroundings! You won’t be disappointed.

Peter (review from Airbnb)
Eddie was fantastic through the entire process. I am new to Airbnb but Eddie ensured I had everything I needed, got back to me w/ lightning fast responses and checked in to make sure the stay was going well. His house is amazing and could not recommend more!

Incredible View - Perfect spot for a weekend getaway
The property is very spacious and well appointed with all the essential amenities for a week/weekend trip. We were especially appreciative of the many kid-friendly elements throughout the house, which enhanced the sense of hospitality. The outdoor space and setting is wonderful and the vista is quite remarkable. The hike down to the river is certainly sporty, but not too difficult for youngsters (although it will take closer to 25 minutes with small children). Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and look forward to booking again in the future.

Wow! Beautiful property!
Eight (8) friends stayed at this property before a backpacking trip at a nearby park. The house was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked in terms of pots, dishes, glasses, soap, paper towels, condiments, etc. The property itself was beautiful overlooking the river. It's very secluded and a little challenging to actually find but it was all worth it in the end (just follow the owner's directions!). The hot tub was amazing and the fire pit really helped us unwind and gave us a place to socialize. I rent a lot of rentals through HomeAway is this is definitely a top notch spot!

Gilberto (review from Airbnb)
it was a wonderful weekend! the house was very well equipped, with all the necessary utensils to our slide. Everything is very clean and organized and with great bed linen and towels, the host is always ready to help us and responding to our messages whenever necessary. thank you very much Mr Eddie we love the experience

William (review from Airbnb)
Outstanding views of the river and sunsets. This location is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The house was extremely comfortable and would be the perfect place for families and it has lots of space to spread out and plenty of beds. It’s an easy drive into Charles Town as well if you want to grab supplies or eat out.

Great getaway
Loved the house and view. Used the hottub and it was relaxing. Sat by the firepit two night and it does a great job. Love hearing the river. The ride on the driveway was a little rough on my car because of the high middle. The owner was responsible sive and checked on me. Great place to stay!

Austin (review from Airbnb)
The views from the house are amazing! Spacious interior with excellent amenities.

Maryrose (review from Airbnb)
The view from this
Home is spectacular for sure. The bedding was exceptional as well. I slept so well
Very clean.
Happy to be able to use the inside
Fireplace he wasn’t lying when he says it warms up the entire lower level. Hot tub was a nice touch.
The picture of the beach is a little deceiving, luckily I asked about it prior to renting so I was aware of what it entailed to get to the beach.
The app to open and lock the front door was not the most user friendly. It did not work for me. I’m sure when it works it’s a wonderful tool, I would have rather just had a lock box.
I would recommend this house for the view alone.
Thank you for a wonderful respite.

Matt (review from Airbnb)
This is a nice house with an amazing location above the river. We loved exploring the forest/river, and enjoying the amenities of the house (especially the hot tub)

Kris (review from Airbnb)
Incredible views, lovely home. We had a fabulous time and would love to come back! Easy check-in and check out and prompt communication!

Sarah (review from Airbnb)
We had a great stay! The house was great - super clean, well-stocked with everything we needed, and - as a bonus - had a number of board games and other toys for kids! Our favorite spot was in the back yard at the firepit, overlooking the river and enjoying the sunset. We also enjoyed a number of nice hikes (good for all ages) that were within 10-20 minutes of the house. Definitely a great value and a great get-away!

Emilie (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful well furnished home with great views of the river.

Aaron (review from Airbnb)
We had an excellent stay at the riverside house. The views over the Shenandoah are really remarkable and we loved how secluded the house felt relative to the neighbours. It was fun to go wandering the backside of the property down the hill toward the river. The house itself is great, with a large and functional kitchen, cozy living room, a beautiful master bedroom upstairs. Everything was spotless when we arrived. We were warned that the internet wouldn't be fast (we were working remotely so internet access was a priority) but it actually was totally fine for our purposes -- though perhaps it would not have been fast enough to stream Netflix, we didn't try. Finally, the host was a great communicator and accommodating of our special requests. A great stay!

Joe (review from Airbnb)
Great house, amazing views of river! Great hot tub! Fun hike down to river. Perfect spot for getaway

What a gem. Beautiful house, gorgeous view and wonderful communication with the host!

Grace (review from Airbnb)
Such a gorgeous place! My friends and I came here for two nights for our spring break. Our favorite parts by far were the hot tub and balcony overlooking the Shenandoah River. This house is also a quick drive from Harper's Ferry and the Appalachian Trail, both of which we explored during the day. I would definitely recommend this place for a relaxing getaway with friends!

Shoshanna (review from Airbnb)
Edward was very easy to communicate with when arriving and upon departure . The house was sparkling clean. This property is perfect for those wanting to have a nice get away while also being close enough to attractions . The view from the back deck is also to die for, pictures do not do it enough justice . Looking forward to returning in the future .

Kirk (review from Airbnb)
Great place fantastic views and very clean house with 4 big bedrooms. 2 on top floor 1 on first floor an on bunkbed in basement. We slept all in basement an loved it. Word to the wise READ your directions carefully and do NOT trust your GPS you will get lost and maybe stuck in mud. If you follow the directions that are supplied to you you will have no problem finding the house but if you follow the directions on your GPS it will get lost.

Starling (review from Airbnb)
Stunning location and wonderful value! The space is great for larger parties- very clean, well equipped and furnished, and up-to-date. The hot tub, scenic river views, and proximity to VA wineries makes it a near perfect choice for anyone looking to stay in the area. As a host, Edward is very thorough and communicative.

Alina (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful home with amazing views of the Shenandoah River from the house and the hot tub! Definitely recommend!

Andrew (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful house overlooking the Shenandoah River for a nice getaway with the family. Fully stocked kitchen (pans, utensils, plates, etc.) so you can do all you cooking there with a gas grill right outside of the kitchen on the huge deck. Books, board games and toys are an added touch and is child proofed with gates at both stairs. Harper's Ferry is close by for a day trip and enjoy the hot tub to unwind at night with the sound of the river below. Very communicative hosts which made the experience all the better.

Aaron (review from Airbnb)
Amazing house with great amenities the sound of the river is so soothing and peaceful and the sunset views were spectacular. We were a large group and everyone had a bed and we all enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend. Rey close to Harpers Ferry.

Great affordable getaway close to DC. This property is probably best suited to a family, a couple or a small group of friends. Main floor living space seats 5 comfortable. Beautiful view, awesome deck, amazing hot tub and very clean. The house is simple, clean and very nice. Be sure to carefully read wifi instructions and directions (I didn't.. that's on me!). Great hosts very responsive.

Jodi (review from Airbnb)
We had a great weekend at Edward’s place. It is very quiet and the location is convenient to Harper’s Ferry and wineries. The beds and linens were very comfortable. The view of the river is beautiful!

Oliver (review from Airbnb)
This is a great retreat. Beautiful river views, excellent deck for entertaining. Was not an ideal location for my stay, as I was commuting to Leesburg everyday, but if remote with beautiful scenery is what you are looking for then this is it. Charles Town is nearby for good eating and a pretty impressive casino.

Barbi (review from Airbnb)
This place was absolutely stunning. I stayed for three nights and cooked all of my meals in the Airbnb, so I can tell you the kitchen is very well stocked. The hot tub is brand new and very clean. The view is incredible. The whole house is sparkling clean. I had everything I needed. The only thing I would suggest bringing is sugar/cream for coffee if you like to have them with your coffee. I can’t say enough good things about this place! I definitely hope to come back with friends someday.

Shannon (review from Airbnb)

Nice house and great view from the top of the hill!! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The host was communicative when needed and the house was sparkling clean!!!

Completely recommend this house and location.

Dallis (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful, modern place far enough away from everything to feel secluded but not too far that running any errands feels like a hassle. Views of the river and the woods are amazing, and nothing beats the huge, comfy bed upstairs to end the day. The perfect birthday getaway.

Daniel (review from Airbnb)
The home is a really lovely place to unwind in nature. It has a great view of the river, and the hot tub is a wonderful place to hang and look out into the mountains. The home is really cozy.

Joe (review from Airbnb)
Spotless home with beautiful views off the back deck. Comfy beds and plenty of space. Also, thanks for having the games available as we had a nice time playing taboo and drinking wine from our local wine visits. Home was very private and perfect for our needs!

Felicia (review from Airbnb)
Do not hesitate and book this home now! This location is remote and private with peace and quiet overlooking white water rapids from a wooded hilltop just 20-25 mins from old Harpers Ferry with an easy scenic drive. The nearest market is just 9 mins away with very friendly and helpful owners. Remember to bring your own fire starter and firewood and the fixings for s’mores because the wood burning stove on the lower level is just lovely! You can hear the rapids from the house. Truly an escape into nature. Follow the owners directions to get to the location closely and it’s easy to locate. Great for families of all ages. Everything you need in the kitchen. Plenty of space in the beautiful large dining room. Perfect bubble bath haven in the massive tub on the second floor. This place is totally a little slice if heaven in Almost Heaven West Virginia ❤️

Rebecca (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful house and view overlooking river. Very comfy beds and lots of space, worth the drive up to winding backroads.

Kelly (review from Airbnb)
The view from the back deck was awesome, the pictures do not do it justice! We are three couples that get together at least monthly to play cards, laugh and enjoy a great time together. This home was great for us, there was a bedroom and bath on each floor, which is difficult to find 3 baths, loved that we each had the privacy of our own floor. Edward was a great host with timely responses. We missed out on some linens, a toaster and a mirror in the downstairs bathroom. Small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but important to check when you arrive on the linens...and if you’re making breakfast, be sure to bring your toaster. We are new to Airbnb, it was a great first experience, the privacy and view at this place is superb!
